目次
Our main goal is to train researchers able to become actively involved in Buddhist studies on the international arena.
Our university is a graduate school with a five-year integrated doctoral program that has only one department, the Department of Buddhist Studies. Despite having a small school size of four students per year, we offer a curriculum that is rich in international diversity. Our dedicated faculty members provide one-on-one supervision in order to enable students to reach the stage of producing a Ph. D. thesis.
Our library boasts a collection of over 140,000 volumes of primary sources, research materials, publications, and more from both domestic and international sources. It is widely recognized as an outstanding Buddhist studies library on an international level. Students have access to almost all of these resources for reading and borrowing, allowing for efficient and meaningful research activities. This accessibility is one of the distinctive features of our university.
We offer a curriculum rich in international diversity with a focus on 'Philology' and 'Cultural Studies'.
In the field of 'Philology,' we conduct research on Buddhism, spanning from India to Japan, through various literary sources. In 'Cultural Studies,' we approach Buddhism from the perspectives of history, religious studies, art history, and more.
In addition, we regularly invite distinguished Buddhist scholars and researchers from overseas to hold lectures and public lectures. This fosters international academic exchange and provides valuable opportunities for the exchange of the latest research insights.
Furthermore, we create opportunities for all faculty and students to explore contemporary issues such as the philosophy of life (bioethics) and the concept of nature (environmental issues) through the lens of Buddhist thought.
Addressing fundamental, universal questions such as 'How should human beings live their lives?' we deepen our understanding of various religions, including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Confucianism, Taoism, and others, while specializing in Buddhist studies. Our goal is to cultivate individuals who can contribute internationally to the field of religious studies and offer insights into global religious issues, transcending the boundaries of Buddhism.
