Matsushima Bay

Matsushima Bay

Matsushima Bay is one of the three most scenic spots in Japan and continues to fascinate people with its beauty from the ancient Heian period. There are over 260 large and small islands scattered around, and it is exceptional to see the islands from the sea using a sightseeing boat or a cruise in the bay that runs between Shiogama and Matsushima.

It is also called "Goshikinuma" because the colors will change into emerald green or into blue depending on how the sun shines. The vivid lake surface has a mysterious atmosphere in contrast to the rough crater wall. It is cool even in the summer near the top of the mountain; therefore, it is ideal for summer.
